Leeds United on the Road 2012

Our annual 'Leeds United on the Road' event takes places on Thursday 15th March at The Spa's Ocean Room from 7pm, two days before we take on West Ham United at Home.

The evening will feature the usual format including a Q&A with the Leeds United panel featuring players both past and present, entertainment from a top comedian, auctions, raffles and of course a two course meal.

If you've never joined us before, previous guests have included Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer, Patrick Kisnorbo, Jermaine Beckford, Jonathan Douglas, Neil Kilkenny, Eric Lichaj, Frazer Richardson, Brendan Ormsby and Ken Bates.

Trip to Billy's Bar Sunday Carvery

We are running a bus to the Billy’s Bar Sunday Carvery on Sunday 12th December.

The adult price of £13.50 gets you a three course meal, where will be joined by a first team player, rumoured to be Sanchez Watt and a 30 minute stadium tour of Elland Road which is also included in the price. Under 12’s is cheaper but we are not sure of the price at this moment in time.

We are taking a 49 seater bus to both the Scunthorpe & Coventry City away matches.

The coach for Scunny will depart at 11am from Scarborough train station and will cost £15 adults & £8 Juniors.

For the trip to The Ricoh Arena we will depart at 9.00. Prices: £25 adults & £13 juniors and we are picking up in Driffield, Howden & Leeds.

A mini bus is being run to the Norwich City & Reading away fixtures and we are sold out for both trips. Prices to be confirmed.

R.I.P. The Mini Bus (2007-2010)

It was decided at our last committee meeting that the time has now come to scrap our mini bus. Next month would have seen us pay over £1500 on insurance, road tax and break down cover and this was all before it took it’s M.O.T, a test that it looked deemed to fail.

Coupled with the fact that the mini bus has not been regularly used this season due to us being allocated more tickets for away games, meant that this was seen as money wasted.

The mini bus was purchased with the help of MJ Builders & AS Roofing during the first season in League one, when we sometimes struggled to gain tickets for some away games and when we were over subscribed for home matches. Despite the fact that it needed a little push every now and then the mini bus allowed both supporters and the club to keep costs down when travelling mainly down South to away matches in League One.

This is not to say costs will now rise, we will now hire a mini bus from a local firm which we did for the last match against Ipswich Town, which saw adults members pay just £25, not bad for a 500+ mile round trip.

Below is a place for you to pay your tributes and record all the great memories of your times travelling in ‘her‘, I doubt she will be missed by many.

The Legends and Celebrity Charity Football Match has been organised to honour the memory of Eloise Lema Dalton, who lost her life in December 2009 aged just 9 months to pneumococcal meningitis and septicaemia. Her family and friends aim to raise awareness of this disease and to help in the fight to stop meningitis and related illnesses through the development of preventative vaccines.

Stars from TV, film, music, radio and sport go head to head in an All Star charity football match at LUFC, Elland Road on Saturday 9^th October. The stars are raising money for two very deserving charities in memory of Eloise Lema Dalton, Meningitis UK & CashforKids

This fantastic Charity Football match will be the very last for the Leeds Allstars who bow out in style by going head to head with the Liverpool Allstars. This season's On The Road evening will take place on Thursday 3rd March 2011. Due to the Spa Complex being fully booked on suitable Fridays in the Spring we have had to move the event to a Thursday but on a positive note it means that Eddie Gray will be part of the panel.

The seaside town of Scarborough may be off the radar of most international tourists, but those who live in Yorkshire and its surroundings will be aware of its numerous attractions.

Arguably the town’s jewel in the crown is Scarborough Castle, which dates back over 2,500 years, and sits within an imposing headland between two bays. The castle, which boasts dramatic sheer drops to the sea, has endured a battle-hardened past, having come under siege from medieval kings and Civil War armies, as well as German bombardment during the Second World War. Visitors can climb to

the battlement viewing platforms for impressive coastline views, and take tea in the 18th-century Master Gunner's House.

Another of Scarborough’s favourite attractions is its beaches, the most popular being South Sands, which is a large sandy bay that draws families thanks to its child-friendly facilities. There is also a working inner harbour with a small fishing fleet and outer harbour for pleasure boats and yachts. Those looking for a mid-range choice may want to consider the 3-star Ashcroft Hotel. This family run guest house would be ideal for those travelling by car, as it offers on-site parking for guests.

Visitors to Scarborough who are on a budget will benefit from the affordable prices at the 2-star Ryndle Court Hotel, which offers basic but clean amenities. This hotel also offers excellent views towards the Castle and headland which separates the North and South Bays.

Pubs

For a small town, Scarborough has an impressive number of public houses, bars and clubs. Throughout the year these venues are kept busy by the town’s student population, whilst during peak season the visiting crowds add further to the watering holes’ coiffeurs.

Whilst large chain bar have arrived on the landscape in recent years, Scarborough is still home to several traditional English pubs such as the Lord Nelson, the Commercial Scholars.

A popular haunt with a younger crowd is The Cask, which is distinctive for its wall-to-wall (and roof) antiques. Boasting two floors and lots of bar space, the Cask is situated close to the town centre, past the famous Valley Bridge.

About the stadium
The home of Leeds United is Elland Road, in the Beeston area of the city, which they have occupied since their foundation in 1919. They took over the tenancy from their predecessors Leeds City, who had been managed by the great Herbert Chapman (who later led Huddersfield to three consecutive division one titles in the 1920s before transforming Arsenal into a trophy-winning side).

Elland Road is the 12th largest stadium in England, and the largest outside the Premier League. It comprises four main stands – the Revie Stand (named after the club’s most successful manager), the East Stand, the South Stand and the John Charles Stand (named after the former player known as “the Gentle Giant”) – which, together with the corners, bring the total capacity to 39,460. It was once described by Alex Ferguson as the most intimidating stadium in Europe.

How to get there
Elland Road is easy to get to by road, as it is adjacent to the junctions of the M1, M62 and M621. Parking is free on Lowfields Road, Gelderd Road and Town Street (behind the South Stand). The closest rail station is Cottingley station, about a mile from the stadium. It takes just five minutes from Leeds Railway Station, itself two miles from the stadium.

Buses 93 and 96 go to Beeston from the city centre.

Where to stay

Most hotels are in the city centre, a couple of miles away, and there is only one hotel near Elland Road, the Premier Inn Leeds City West. It is however, not a bad place to stay: the rooms are tastefully decorated and have air-conditioning and central heating, and the beds are comfy. Rooms start from £29.

Another affordable chain hotel is the Ibis Leeds Centre, a ten minute walk from the city centre. The rooms are quite small, but the beds are big.

A bit more upmarket is Malmaison Hotel Leeds, one of 12 boutique hotels the company owns around the country, which was voted Hotel of the Year by Yorkshire’s Tourism Board. Located in a beautiful building formerly occupied by a bus company’s head office, the carefully decorated rooms are modern and stylish.

Wireless internet is free throughout the hotel for the first 30 minutes.

Where to drink

The two most popular pubs for home fans are The Old White Hart on Town Street and The Old Peacock on Elland Road, both of which are close to the ground and packed full of hopeful Leeds fans on match day. The Scarbrough Hotel – known as the Scarbrough Taps – on Bishopsgate Street in the town centre, is another popular home fan hangout.

For away fans, The Drysalters, a 10-minute walk from the ground, is a good bet. It offers competitively priced beers and has a large TV with Sky Sports.

New Season, New Bus, Same Prices

The fixtures have finally been released for our return to the npower Championship and we start with a home fixture against Derby County on Saturday 7th August followed by an away trip to Nottingham Forest the following Saturday.

The prices for the season's Home matches have been announced by LUFC and are as follows:

Interest is being taken for the first two home games against Derby County (5.15pm K.O.) Millwall, The Lincoln City Carling Cup tie on August 10th and the first batch of away games which include: Notts. Forest (14/8), Watford (28/8), Barnsley (14/9), Doncaster Rovers (18/9) & Ipswich Town (2/10). The Closing date for away fixtures is 14th July and applications can only be made by valid season ticket holders & Members

For next season we have changed coach providers to Shoreline Sun Cruisers.

Due to our promotion we are hoping that there will be more demand for home games and using this operator allows us to take 70+ supporters to matches plus the coach has extra leg room and even tables.

Once again there is no membership fee to travel with us but we encourage you to join the LUFC Members Club especially if you would like to travel to away games and currently the prices from Scarborough to home matches next season are still the same: Adults (18+): £12, 16-17 year olds: £9 and U16s: £6.

There is also a coach running to the Wolves Pre-season friendly at Elland Road on Saturday 31st July.

The George Lickes' Shield

Christmas 2009 saw us lose George Lickes after a long illness. George was a lifelong Leeds United Supporter and held a season ticket in the West Stand right up until his passing and was very much a football man. He played football for the Police Team & Cayton and was also a football coach, training youngsters in Barrowcliff.

George was also a founder member of the Leeds United Member's Club, Scarborough Branch and in order to commemorate both him & his passion for the game The George Lickes' Shield will be awarded at the end of the each season to the Scarborough Whites' Young Supporter of the season.

The inaugural winner of the Shield for the 2009/10 season is Liam Giles who attended every home fixture and only missed four away matches all season. After recieving the award at our 'On The Road' event (pictured above) Liam stated that he is 'happy & proud' to have won the award and hopes to build on his success by attending more matches next season when he hopes to have an away season ticket.

At the start of the season George was featured in the Match Day Programme and was presented with a framed copy of the programme signed by the entire playing squad. George's wife, Anne decided to auction off the programme in order to raise money for the St. Catherine's Hospice, an adult’s hospice that cares for people with life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families and who helped them both significantly through George's illness.

The auction held at our 2010 On The Road evening and was won by Darren Raistrick (pictured above) who purchased the programme for a massive £500.

Hes been banging on about it for the last three seasons but now its finally happening. We will be holding a party to celebrate LUFC's promotion to the championship on Friday 18th June in the upstairs function room at the Corporation Club on Dean Road.

England's second group game against Algeria will be shown on the big screen and there will be a buffet , a half time quiz with a gallon of beer up for grabs, a raffle and live entertainment from a Singer who will fuse his usual act with Leeds United related tunes.

The night gets underway at 7pm and all Leeds United Supporters are welcome.
